Altadis USA Closing 107 - Year - Old - Hav - A - Tampa Factory:
End of August, 2009. The April 1 SCHIP-mandated federal tabacco tax increase is forcing one of the oldest cigar factorys in Tampa to put up the shutters. This Factory produced machine made cigars and employeed about 495 works and has been in service since 1902. The operation will be transfered to a factory in Puerto Rico. Also related to this tax increase JC Newman Cigar Companies factory was forced to raise prices by 33 percent on the 40,000 machine made cigars it makes daily in Ybor City.
